TL;DR. Branded prompts (containing your brand name) test visibility hygiene: does AI know you exist and describe you correctly? They are also interesting to see which justification reasons AI engines use (see Sentiment Tab) to include in your content. Non-branded prompts test whether AI brings you up on category queries without your name attached. Both are required. They use different thresholds and diagnose different gaps.
What each tests
Branded prompts. Test entity recognition. If AI cannot find you on your own brand name, you have an entity emergency. This is the foundation.
Non-branded prompts. Test topic association. Does AI associate your brand with your category, use cases, or niches? This is where the real competitive battle is.
Why you need both
Branded visibility is the floor. If it fails, nothing else compounds. Non-branded visibility is the ceiling. It is where pipeline growth comes from.
How you tag them
Every prompt in a group gets tagged with visibility hygiene: branded or non-branded. This is one of the three required tag dimensions, alongside intent and scope.
Do this now:
Write down 3 branded prompts ("[your segment] [your brand]", "best [your segment] [your brand]", "[your segment] [your brand] pricing") and 3 non-branded prompts ("[your segment]", "best [your segment]", "[your segment] pricing"). Tag each.
